We’re all in this together.
The combined design and construction experience at Norman Building & Design spans centuries. You’d have to go a long way to find a company with more. Yet you barely have to lift a finger to get access to all that knowledge. From the conceptual stages through the final phases of construction, we encourage you to interact with team members directly. Each one of us is available to answer your questions, make your changes, and address your concerns throughout the process.
Why not get to know a few of us before we kick things off?

Jim Norman, Founder
Email Jim Jim laid the foundation for what Norman Building & Design (NBD) is today when he moved to Bend back in 1977, searching for a place to raise his young family and build exceptional homes. His passion for creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional was fueled by his willingness to listen to the desires of each client as well as his ability to offer his insights based on many years of experience. Jim was the driving force in evolving the company to include cabinetry design and construction. He often has expressed that his smartest move was to bring our interior design in-house to support excellent communication between our clients and our construction efforts. After more than four decades at the helm, Jim continues as our lead designer and driving force for the company moving forward. Yet he still finds time to enjoy golf, fishing, mountain biking and all the other activities that drew him to Central Oregon in the first place |
Greg Garrick, Director of Sales & Marketing
Email Greg 541-280-6753 Greg was introduced to Norman Building & Design as a client way back in 1989. The Norman team built his family a spectacular vacation home in Sunriver, which led to the construction of two more permanent homes in Bend. Greg enjoyed the experience of working with NBD so much, he jumped at the invitation to join them as an employee more than 20 years ago. His experience as a client makes him the perfect liaison for new and repeat customers today. A native of southern California, Greg enjoys the small-town, Norman Rockwell-family feel of Bend. While he and his wife are empty-nesters, he feels lucky to be part of the Norman Building & Design “family.” |
Kelly O’Grady, Project Manager
Email Kelly 541-389-1670 Kelly O’Grady’s relationship with NBD began as a finish carpenter way back in the late 1980s and he even worked on Greg Garrick’s first Norman home in 1989. He became a Project Manager in 1999 and brings a very team-oriented, detailed approach to work each day, sweating the small stuff in a very positive way. |
David Norman, Director of Project Management
Email David 541-706-1677 As the son of Ron Norman, who worked alongside his brother Jim for more than 20 years, David is proud to carry on the legacy of Norman conquests into the next generation. He continues to have a blast living in the town where he grew up and made so many friends and childhood memories. Having developed as a finish carpenter, David has a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to make the woodwork, cabinets, and all the finishes look natural and effortless. Since joining NBD in 2011, David has also become a big fan of the “teamwork makes the dream work” mentality. “Everyone is here to support each other and work towards a common goal, create something spectacular, and enjoy our jobs,” says David. “I love problem solving with the NBD team, subcontractors, and clients to find beautiful solutions in complex situations.” Now, after completing countless punch lists as one of our project managers, David knows how to address all the little details that help make Norman homes so special. |
Troy Brown, Remodel Division Project Manager and Customer Service
Email Troy 541-280-6734 Troy hails from a two-horse town called Vernal in Eastern Utah. Since the horses weren’t hiring, he headed northwest, fell in love with Bend, then landed his dream job at NBD in 2001. As one of our remodeling project managers, he too appreciates Norman’s high standards of construction and the feeling of working with one big happy family. Growing up in rural Utah, where the nearest plumber or electrician might be three hours away, Troy learned to repair things around the house, which helped make him the perfect candidate to be our customer service and warranty representative. From patching drywall cracks to adjusting cabinets, Troy can fix just about anything. And if he can't fix it, he knows how to find somebody who can right away. No wonder one of our clients jokingly calls him their “cabana boy.” |
Sean Joyce, Remodel Division Project Manager
Email Sean 541-480-0882 A native of Florida, Sean ultimately escaped the intense heat and humidity for Bend’s incredible snow and snowboarding. And for the icing on the cake, in 2008, he earned the role of NBD’s Remodel Division Project Manager, where he gets to help folks add new life to their homes whether Norman built them or not. In addition to helping clients realize their remodeling visions and enjoy their end product, there are three things that Sean appreciates most about working for NBD:
|
Matt Hogstad, Architectural Designer
Email Matt 541-389-1670 Matt came to Norman in July of 2022 with four years of architectural design experience and already sees himself staying for the long haul. His favorite part about working here is having a whole team of knowledgeable colleagues to learn from – from interior designers to field project managers – all in house. “Our commitment to innovation will keep us relevant as architecture and technology continues to advance,” says Matt. “We have a vast amount of expertise at Norman to draw from and the drive to keep pushing the envelope.” Outside of work, Matt is busy being a Dad to his young daughter Willow. When he is not changing diapers, you can find him cooking, doing pottery, and skiing. |
Shannon McCullough, Interior Designer
Email Shannon 541-389-1670 Originally from Northern California and the Bay Area, Shannon received a degree in Interior Design from Philadelphia University and joined NBD in July of 2024. Shannon has worked in many aspects of the design field from designer showrooms with custom furnishings to commercial and retail design, and custom residential. She enjoys all aspects of the design process, but especially thrives when working on how a space flows, how beautiful cabinetry functions and pulling all the finishes and fixtures together throughout the entire home. But most of all, she loves being able to work with a unified team in creating and building projects for clients. Shannon is excited to experience the four seasons here, sharing an abundance of outdoor activities with her family. |
Gabrielle Crouch, Project Coordinator
Email Gabrielle 541-389-4245 Originally from Redmond, Oregon, Gabrielle has been with NBD for two years and enjoys wandering in Central Oregon's vast outdoor landscapes, as well as cooking with family and friends. Her favorite part about being a project coordinator is that she is constantly learning new skills and growing in her knowledge of the business through experiencing different situations in a team environment. Coordinating and building custom homes for each client creates the perfect outlet for problem-solving, innovating and creative thinking. Being involved and connected to each project from beginning to completion, Gabrielle is always ready to assist and be a resource for every client. Her philosophy is: there is no such thing as a bad question. So feel free to ask her anything. |
Heidi Hausner, Director of Finance & HR
Email Heidi 541-389-1670 Having been raised in Tumalo, Heidi has a great appreciation for breath-taking views of the Three Sisters, as well as the opportunity to raise her children in a country atmosphere and culture. Since joining Norman in July 2022, Heidi has jumped right in as a team player, taking good care of the project status and financials for each client while their dreams are being built. Yet, like everyone else here, she wears multiple hats. If she doesn’t have the answer for you, she will find someone who does. |
